<image:title>Our Story - Old roots.</image:title>
<image:caption>First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Colorado Springs was the first church in the city, formed in 1871, the same year our city was founded. Since then, FUMC has had a faithful history of planting United Methodist churches in the community. FUMC started Mountain View United Methodist (Woodland Park) in 1978, Sunrise United Methodist (Briargate area) in 1980, and the former Wilson UMC, now Wilson Community Church (Mountain Shadows area) in 1987.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Story - A new blooming on the Prairie.</image:title>
<image:caption>With great joy, in 2019, FUMC became a multi-site congregation (one church in two locations) as it planted the Prairie Campus out on the eastern plains of Colorado Springs. The Prairie Campus remains connected to the FUMC downtown campus (located at 420 N. Nevada Ave.), as together they witness to the extravagant grace of God, made known in Jesus Christ. As of 2026, we have begun the chartering process for Prairie Campus. Read the FAQs on the process here.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Story - Flourishing out East.</image:title>
<image:caption>Since the Prairie Campus launched in 2019, it’s been an unforgettable journey full of grace, laughter, taking risks, and making things up as we go along. We love our monthly potlucks, small groups, MOPS gatherings, and any excuse to get together. Most of all we love being a church that serves as each month we engage in the work of Christ. What a crazy, joyful ride building a new church. Come be a part!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Prairie Campus Minister pattyw@fumc-cs.org, 719-471-8522, x204 Patty has midwestern roots, hailing from Indiana, and then serving churches in Cleveland for 11 years, before moving to Colorado Springs in 2007. In the Springs, she served as a Pikes Peak Hospice chaplain for 5 years, and then came on the ministerial staff at First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Downtown in 2012. In 2019, God called her to this crazy and holy adventure of planting the Prairie Campus out on the eastern plains. She is excited to be reaching new folks with the message of God’s extravagant love in Jesus Christ. Patty is married to Roger, and they have three kids, Sam, Maggie, and Luke. They decided to get a puppy (Theo) at the same time as planting this new church because what’s a little more chaos and a lot more love! Patty was ordained in the United Church of Christ in 1996, after graduating from Yale Divinity School that same year. In 2022, she transferred her ordination credentials (a four year process!) to the United Methodist Church by becoming an elder and full member of the Mountain Sky Conference.</image:caption>

He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he’s enjoys hiking with his family in Rock Creek Park.</image:caption>

I’ve served on Admin board and the Foundation board at downtown FUMC. I was a part of an adult Sunday School class at FUMC and have led several small group studies at the Prairie Campus. I have a Bachelor of Science degree (Computer Science) from Utica College of Syracuse University and have worked in the high-tech industry for 40 years. I have coded millions of lines of software, and it's still my favorite high-tech activity. This role at Prairie Campus is giving me the opportunity to discover how I might be able to combine my skills with technology, my love for teaching, and the call to ministry.</image:caption>

<image:title>LGBTQ+ Inclusion - From Kindle Rouse:</image:title>
<image:caption>If you are LGBTQ+ and looking for a spiritual home in Colorado Springs, I would highly encourage you to seek out this church. The community built there is absolutely warm and welcoming. They took us by the metaphorical hand the first time we showed up (almost an hour late because we had confused the time! haha) and never blinked an eye at my wife and I, who don't hide who we are. Their worship is genuine, their love is kind and inviting, and their potlucks aren't too bad either. ;) Seriously though, they do put a lot of emphasis on community and community works. Food drives, visits to local assisted living homes, small fairs in their parking lot, putting on plays, adapting services to keep people safe this past year - the list goes on. It's also great to have a woman-led church in the Springs. Her Christmas Eve sermon had me in tears - happy, hopeful ones. We are leaving Colorado, but this church will always hold a place in our hearts. Please go, if you are looking for joy.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“All are loved & welcome here!” How many times have you heard that mantra, only to find out the love was conditional? At FUMC Prairie Campus, they really mean it. As a gay Christian, this church has been a place of healing where I can bring my entire self to a community of faith, without reserve. Come check it out. I think you’ll be glad you did.</image:caption>

<image:title>Chartering 2026 - Where we started:</image:title>
<image:caption>Nearly seven years ago, Prairie launched as a satellite campus of First United Methodist Church (FUMC). Just months later, COVID changed everything, and with the support of FUMC leadership, Pastor Patty helped Prairie pivot from a video-venue model to a drive-in church—preaching from the back of a pickup truck while worshippers tuned in by FM radio. Through two freezing winters and a blazing summer, Prairie not only endured—it grew, becoming an upstart faith community with a strong identity of its own. Today, Prairie is a vibrant, financially self-sustaining congregation with steady growth, strong lay leadership, and a clear sense of mission in our context. Where we’re going: As Prairie has grown in maturity—and as our lay folks have expressed readiness for self-governance, we have begun the chartering process. For chartering FAQs, click here. How you can join in: We will hold a Constituting Charge Conference on May 10 at worship where we officially charter and you are invited! Then, we will celebrate on May 31 at worship, and would love for you to join us. To become a charter member, please fill out this form.</image:caption>
