We are a church that serves

Volunteer and Serve

Serve! Jesus equated greatness with serving (Mark 10:43). So, wow, do we have opportunities for you to be great! Volunteers are the backbone of the Prairie Campus, from Children’s Ministry, to the Set-up/Tear-down Team, to Welcoming Ministries.

Additionally, the church exists for the transformation of the world. So we are a church that can be found serving God and others in places of need in our community and world. We partner with and champion the efforts of non-profits and organizations that share our heart to change our community for the better. See our mission opportunities below.

VOLUNTEERS - PICK YOUR OWN SUNDAY VOLUNTEER SLOT. Volunteers are needed for setup/teardown, serving communion, greeting, ushers, and tech. Thank you for being willing to help our church minister to our community. Click here to create a Sign Up Genius account and sign up for an available slot.

Children’s Ministries

Whether it is helping to teach Sunday School, volunteer with Vacation Bible School, or working on a special Children's Event like the Christmas Pageant or the Easter Egg Hunt, we love pouring into our Prairie kids.  To volunteer, contact Director of Children's Ministry, Sr. Ite, at sritez@fumc-cs.org.

Set-up/Tear-down

It takes a team of folks each Sunday to transform a gym or cafeteria into a worship space or a nursery.  We have fun building friendships while we work and we burn enough calories that we don't have to go to the gym that day!  To volunteer, email Margaret Scott, Pastor of Parish Life, at margarets@fumc-cs.org.

Welcoming Ministries

Visitors frequently comment on the warm welcome they receive the first time they walk through the doors to the Prairie Campus.  That is because of this awesome group of greeters, ushers, coffee makers, and Welcome Table attendants.  To volunteer, email Margaret Scott, Pastor of Parish Life, at margarets@fumc-cs.org.

Habitat for Humanity

People in our community and all over the world partner with Habitat to build a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With our help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.

Our Prairie Campus team usually works about once a month. Must 16 or older. Any needed training is provided. To get involved, email Kymm@GenesisEquipping.com.

Food Pantry

We donate food to Fresh Start Center on the 1st Sunday of every month. They offer community gardening, transitional employment and a food distribution center for our neighbors in need, right in the eastern plains! Needed items are: canned tomato sauce, tomato paste, canned fruits, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, toilet paper. Bring your items the 1st Sunday of the month to worship, where we will have a receptacle to collet them.

The Place

The real life challenges of youth experiencing homelessness can be overcome. That’s where The Place comes in – they offer vital programs that support young people on their journey. At The Place, youth find skills, support and insight that allow them to step off the streets and step toward a brighter future. We provide a monthly team that cooks breakfast for the residents of The Place, and would love your help! This is the only organization in town providing shelter to homeless teenagers who are on their own. To get involved, email Kymm@GenesisEquipping.com.

Family Promise

Help families that are homeless – Four times a year we support the upcoming Family Promise week at the downtown FUMC campus by providing meals and volunteers to help with hosting. Family Promise is a mission that sponsors families that have found themselves in a temporary position of being homeless. They are housed and fed, helped with job placement and eventually returned to self-sufficiency. To get involved, email Kymm@GenesisEquipping.com.

Christmas in the Parking Lot

Christmas in the Parking Lot is our annual December mission. You’re invited to make Christmas bright for folks who are homeless by participating in a “give away” event held downtown on Christmas Day. The Prairie Campus will be collecting and distributing NEW underwear (any adult size or style) for men and women - so yes, we are known as "the underwear church!" You can help on Christmas day, anytime between 12:30 to 3 pm.

Angel Tree Christmas Gifts

Incarceration can strain family ties to the breaking point. By providing Christmas gifts on behalf of incarcerated parents, sending kids to summer camp, hosting sports camps, and other activities.

We start collecting gifts late November or early December. Look for information at Sunday worship during those months!

Welcoming New Neighbors

We have welcomed new neighbors from Afghanistan, partnering with Lutheran Family Services. We collected household items and have helped resettle two families.

Contact Patty Walker (pattyw@fumc-cs.org) if you would like to be involved in the ongoing work of helping these families adjust to their lives in Colorado Springs.

Feed My Starving Children

Join us during the summer for the Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) Mobile Pack at First United Methodist Church, downtown, located at 420 N. Nevada Ave. We are looking for 480 volunteers to serve throughout six different two-hour shifts. We will create 300,000 meals for starving children around the world. Kids ages 5 and up can volunteer in the packing of these food bags that will then be sent around the world to hungry kids.

First Stars

Make Christmas bright for someone in need! First Stars Adopt-a-Student is our Christmas mission to under-privileged children in our city. We receive the names of children from their school counselors and then we are invited to select a child to sponsor by providing a toy or clothing item from a “wish list” sent by parents/guardians.
